A cold dessert night desended upon the Shire of the Shifting Sands. The moon shone bright in the sky, surrounded with the eerie glow of the stars. Finished with his paperwork and satisfied by a long day's work, the Sheriff locked the doors to the Town Hall and began walking down the road to his house. He sighed softly, tired from a long days work when the sound of laughter filled his ears. Turning his gaze, he saw the recent addition to the town. The Rattler's Roost was a bustling tavern that had just been opened by a few merchants. Debating a quick stop, Vaellyn turned to see what was so interesting about such a place.
He pushed the tavern doors open and stepped inside the building. It was a very comfortable place, filled with friends enjoying themselves and adventurers winding down from a long day's work. A few of the local off-duty guardsman looked at him strangely for a moment, then went back to what they were doing. Making his way to a table in the back corner of the room, spied a few men passing around a large pipe in which smoke was billowing out. The smell of alcohol was faint, but obviously present in the bar. As he settled down at the table by himself, he observed the scene. A small smile spread across his face as he realized this was truly the sign of peace in his new home.

A man sat in the middle of the tavern, accompanied by no one. A Maid walked over to him and asked "would you like anything to drink?" he smiled kindly and said "two pints of your best apple cider please, i will be moving tables so if you could send them to where i am that would be wonderful" she smile back "no problem" she said as she walked away. Abram grabbed his fur cloak and walked to vaellyn's table. he set his cloak down on then back of the chair and spoke "nice little town you landed in, its peaceful, I miss peace. Anyway we have somethings to talk about".

Looking up to see a familiar face, Vaellyn grinned widely. He knew his old friend Abram from his service in the lands of Lupine Moon, though it had been nearly a year since he had seen him. "Ah, you found me! I thought I was doing so well in avoiding you." He chuckled in jest, slapping Abram's shoulder, "Did Mara send you down here to keep an eye on me? She should know better! I'm a big boy."

Abram smiled, "no, she trusts in you my friend. I came on my own accord, to settle some common folk lore. To see an old friend, and a young master. Honestly it was pure luck that I found you, I would have passed by the shire town and continue heading south of it wasn't for that convoy of yours. The real reason I came was..." A young woman approached with two mugs and in her high pitched voice and thick accent said "ello gents, two cidahs (ciders) as you or'ered. And how be Ye be doin' today?" Abram smiled " we're doing great, thank you" and as soon as she was there she smiled, waved, and said goodbye. He looked at vaelly, as he grabbed his mug and took a drink, and then said "I was here to talk about the lands of lupine moon, powerful creatures are rising, we've fought many litches, an earth titan, a ice berserker blockaide, a fire elemental , terrible flying creatures, and then things got ugly"

Vaellyn grabbed his mug and took a sip, his eyes widening at the sounds of the epic beasts, "You are engaging such terrible foes. What is it they want with Northreach? Are they all unified or is it just sheer unluck that they all battle against the land?"

Abram took another drink and said "at first we thought it was bad luck but then I talked with my mages. We talked about the elements in magic you have Water, which was the ice berserker blockade. Following in accordance to the balance was the earth Titans" Abram stared into the abyss, flashing back to the battle where he saw his companion dot get smashed by the Titan. The rage that coursed through his veins must have radiated because even for a second the Titan looked scared before Abram separated it's head from its body. Snapping back to reality Abram said "we lost a lot of men and women that day, and we started become more prepared. After the Titan, came the raging volcano and his fire demons, and filling that came the flying creatures. All of this was mere child's play compared to their master. Their master was colder than the ice berserkers, stronger than the Titan, more fury than the fire elementals, and more terrifying than creatures that haunt the skies. But we unified under the banner and fought back this "master of the elements", and all hope was almost lost until one brave hobbit charged against her and we followed close behind and slayed her. It was bloody but we can out victorious. My mages and I have been talking and we're pretty sure that there is more comming and this time we dont think we can do it alone. That's why I've come. Seeking help, or at least giving warning, if we are defeated by what ever comes next it might head south."

Resting his elbows on the table, Vaellyn sets his drink down. A look of sadness flushes over his face as he sets his drink on the table, "I am so sorry I was not present for that. I wish I could have aided in the battle." He looked to the side for a moment before shaking his head, "But... I am not able to come home. I am now tasked with protecting the King's land." He looks back up to his companion, "This outpost is the only thing that stands between Dragonspine and a demonic force that threatens it. We are pressed against a foe just as terrifying, though I fear the worst has not presented itself yet."

Abram nodded and stood up "I figured you would say that. I wish I could send more aid but we have our own blight. I'll be sending aid as it becomes available. " he grabbed his cloak and turned to the door. He looked back to Vaellyn and said "if I sent you a favor would you wear it on your belt? It would be a symbol of my Mage company in North reach."

Vaellyn frowned at the sight of his friend standing to leave. He sighed softly as he nodded twice, "I imagine my Master has a presence in this group? I would very much love to wear your symbol. It would never leave my belt. Can you not stay a while longer? I've enjoyed your company."

Abram patted his dearly beloved friend on the shoulder "For the promise of you never taking it off I can stay until next quarter moon. Then I'll head home and send a messenger with your favor. Tell me do you hold true to the Druid ways or have you swayed from the path?" He sat back down and took a sip from his mug. Which was feeling a little light

Vaellyn shrugged a bit, "I am still a master of warding magic, if that is what you are asking. Be it called Druid magic or transmutation, I still practice it's use. I am by no means a Druid, though. I my powers are drawn from the arcane."

Abram thought for a moment "so yay but nay? Fair enough. How can I help you whilst I am here, I don't suppose we should just twiddle our thumbs?"

Smirking softly, Vaellyn leans back in his chair, "Tomorrow, you can lead a patrol on our southern border. Scout for any demonic activity and handle it. I'm sure you don't mind scrapping with some demons, hmm?"

Abram laughed "gladly, it's been long since my sword had tasted demon blood. Will you be accompanying me, or must o lead in a land foreign to me?"

"We will need many patrols led by capable hands. I have my own force to lead. I will make sure to send one of my best with you. His name is Garrett. He is a Fox, though he stands as a human." The Sheriff smiles, "He has proved to be our park's finest assassin. He will guide you through the sands."
